A decal sheet with Japanese license plates in 1:24 scale by Red Fox Studio. The package holds decals, not a car model. The set is intended for finishing an already painted body and it is the first volume of the Japanese part of the range.
Japanese plates differ from European ones not only in their proportions but also in how the area is divided and in the mix of characters, because they combine Japanese script with numerals. This is exactly the detail that is often skimped on models of Japanese cars, even though it is visible at close range. For builders of models of Japanese production, whether sports cars, tuned conversions or ordinary civilian vehicles, this set is therefore a logical addition: a European plate on a Japanese subject looks wrong at first glance.
The surface has to be glossy, otherwise the decal will silver. Cut the motif out with a sharp knife close to the artwork, transfer it with tweezers and settle it with a brush moistened in water. Let the surface dry undisturbed and only then fix it with varnish; a matte or semi-matte varnish gives the plate a used look, while a gloss one suggests newness. The plate holder or frame can be suggested with a thin strip of foil and a shadow, which gives the result a three-dimensional quality that a flat decal alone does not have.
