A set of miniature details in 1:24 scale from the Polish brand Yamamoto Model Parts. The wheel nuts are set into the rims of a car model and replace places that on production wheels are dealt with by no more than a suggested impression. It is not a kit of a vehicle and not a set of rims; you obtain the wheels and the model separately.
Colored and extended nuts are as legible a mark in the Japanese tuning scene as the type of rim. On a model they are the smallest parts that can be fitted at all, but that is exactly why they come across convincingly: a wheel with nuts standing out has depth and breaks up the flat impression of a casting. They come into their own on street cars, drift specials and on models in a show build alike.
An anodized color is done with a metallic or translucent paint over a silver base, and the key is a thin coat. On a part the size of a grain of sand one drop of paint too many is enough for the profile of the nut to disappear under the layer, so that once painted it looks like a shapeless little ball. Apply thinned paint therefore in two or three thin coats and let them dry properly. Paint the nuts in a batch, stuck to adhesive tape laid sticky side up, which keeps them from rolling away. Set them into a rim with fine-tipped tweezers and apply the glue to the rim, not to the nut. Deal with how they match their surroundings deliberately: either the nuts blend with the rim in color and work only as a raised detail, or they are to be contrasting, and then they have to be exactly the same on all four wheels, down to the number and the spacing. Mismatched wheels are immediately conspicuous on a model that is looked at from every side.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a kit of the vehicle. Glue, paints and further parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
