This kit from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa captures the second generation of the Nissan Skyline GT-R with the factory designation KPGC110, in the racing configuration the name Racing Concept refers to. It is an injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale, that is in the most common automotive scale, for which paints, decals and accessories are easy to find. Hasegawa has long had a good reputation among modelers thanks to crisp mold impressions and cleanly engraved panel lines.
The Skyline 2000GT-R with the code KPGC110 followed on from its famous predecessor with the code KPGC10, nicknamed Hakosuka. It was built on the C110 generation chassis, which to this day is nicknamed Kenmeri after the period advertising campaign with the couple Ken and Mary. Under the hood worked the two-liter S20 inline six-cylinder with two overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder, that is an engine derived from racing practice. The car went on sale at the beginning of 1973 and was built in an exceptionally small batch: the oil crisis and tightened emission rules ended its career before it could follow on from the circuit successes of the previous generation. That is exactly why a racing treatment of this car is so popular among collectors: it shows what a Kenmeri GT-R would have looked like on the track.
First rid the body carefully of mold seams and sand the surface to a high smoothness: on gloss finishes every irregularity is emphasized. Apply a filling primer, then the paint in several thin coats with an airbrush, and finally a gloss clear coat. Finish and fit the engine, the chassis and the interior before you close up the body. Glue the glazing with glue intended for clear parts, so that the plastic is not fogged. Apply the decals over a perfectly glossy surface and fix them with a final clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
