A 1:24 kit capturing the Honda Civic Type R of the EP3 generation in the Japanese LA-EP3 specification.
Responsibility details are not available.
The subject is the sharp version of the seventh-generation Honda Civic, which enthusiasts identify by the body code EP3. The LA prefix in the name belongs to Japanese type approval, so the set aims at the home-market specification of the car, which differed from the European version in its mechanicals as well as its equipment.
The Type R rested on Honda's high-revving approach to tuning a four-cylinder engine: the two-liter K20A with variable valve timing spun the car up to high revolutions and rewarded a driver who was not afraid to shift. The six-speed gearbox had its lever placed unusually on the center section of the dashboard, which shortened the travel of the hand between the steering wheel and the shifter. The car was built at a British plant and went from there to European markets as well as back to Japan, where the Japanese version got a sharper tune and sports seats.
A hatchback with a high tail has large glazed areas, so the window frames and the wipers greatly affect the overall impression. The interior of the Type R is interesting in itself and it is worth spending time on, because it is clearly visible through the windows. Bright, rich body shades call for a good white base, or they look dull. The wheels and the brake calipers are finished separately and fitted at the very end.
The assembly and the painting are left to the modeler; the item is sold unfinished.
