An add-on set in 1:24 scale with sports shock absorbers for models of cars. It is an accessory for a base kit, not a model of a vehicle. The chassis tends to be skimped in ordinary kits, as the shock absorbers and the springs often form a single coarse molding, because it is reckoned that nobody will see them under the car anyway. As soon as you build a model with a lowered chassis, with the wheels turned or with open wheel arches, though, the shock absorbers become a part open to view and the difference tells at once.
Sports shock absorbers with a threaded adjustment and a striking spring belong among the typical elements of tuning and racing cars. The set is therefore intended mainly for builds in the style of street tuning, time attack and circuit specials, where a lowered chassis is part of the overall expression. It also comes into its own on models on a turning stand and in dioramas where a car is raised on a jack or taken apart in a workshop and the underside is seen close up.
Before gluing, check the height and the angle of the mounting dry, as on a chassis every deviation shows in how the car stands on its wheels. Glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate); on a loaded joint which carries the weight of the model, reach rather for epoxy. If the parts are of resin, wash them in lukewarm soapy water before painting and cut the casting blocks away with a saw. It pays to paint before fitting: the springs are well served by a saturated, contrasting shade, and the body of the shock absorber by a metallic or a dark graphite tone. At the end a fine wash into the recesses and a discreet dust weathering help, as a freshly painted chassis looks unnaturally clean.
