Yamamoto Model Parts carries a whole line of similar props - tools, crates, containers, workshop fittings - and a skateboard fits among them as an object which gives away at once where and when a scene takes place. It is an accessory, not a model of a vehicle and not a kit on its own.
A diorama stands or falls on the small things. Empty paving or the bare floor of a garage looks sterile, whereas a single object put aside gives a scene a sense of scale, a direction of view and a story. A skateboard can be leaned against a wall, laid on a cargo bed, left lying beside a car or hung in the interior, and in every one of those positions it works as a clue which tells a viewer that the scene is civilian and contemporary. Given its size it is an easy way to take an already finished diorama further.
The accessory is small, so work with tweezers and glue it with super glue (cyanoacrylate) drop by drop, as the excess is hard to remove on a part this small. If the part is of resin, wash it in lukewarm soapy water before painting and cut any casting block away with a saw. The painting can be managed with a brush: the deck tends to be striking and the underside takes a colorful motif, whereas the wheels and the trucks need a darker, less saturated shade, or they look like a toy. Realism is helped by a light rubbing of the edges with a dry brush and a slight deposit of dust pigment on the wheels.
