A detail accessory for the interior of a model car in 1:24 scale from Yamamoto Model Parts. According to the name it holds a sports steering wheel and a quick release nut, that is, the element with which the steering wheel of racing and tuning cars is released and taken off the hub. It is an accessory, not a kit of a car.
What it is for in reality. A quick release system for a steering wheel is used where it is necessary to get into a seat or out of it quickly: in circuit and rally cars for safety and because of the cramped space between the cage and the seat, and in street tuning often as protection against theft too. A small sporting rim with three arms also frees the view of the instrument panel.
Why it is noticed on a model. Steering wheels from boxed kits tend to be thick and with coarsely suggested arms, because the mold limits them. On open interiors, with the doors swung out or on models photographed close up, it is one of the first details which gives away the stock origin of a build.
Separate the parts especially carefully, as the rim of the steering wheel is thin and breaks easily. After degreasing and priming, paint with a brush: matte black on the rim, contrasting metallic or colored arms, and on the quick release nut a shade of polished aluminum or an anodized color comes in handy. Credibility is raised by a thin line of a darker shade where the rim joins the arms. Choose the gluing according to the material of the parts: on resin and printed parts use super glue.
