The Celica Turbo 4WD was Toyota's rally weapon for Group A: a turbocharged four-cylinder, four-wheel drive and a coupe body with a prominent rear wing. Cars of this type appeared in the world championship not only in the colors of the works team but also with private stables, which campaigned them for several seasons after their peak. The Italian Grifone team was among the best known of them, and the same manufacturer makes other boxes in its colors as well. The RAC Rally was the traditional British round of the world championship, famous for fast stretches of forest tracks and unpredictable weather.
A rally car is recognized by its markings, so apply the decals over a perfectly glossy base, with a softener and with patience where they pass over edges and the lips of the fenders. The base under sponsor liveries calls for a level finish without grain. Build the interior complete before you close the body: the cage, the seats and the instruments are clearly visible through the glazing on a rally car. If you want to dust the car down, work sparingly — a fine hint of pigment on the sills, the wheel arches and the lower parts of the bumpers looks more believable than dirt all over.
