About product

Decals 1:72 Fokker D.VII in Finnish service — AML

A decal sheet in 1:72 scale from AML lets you build the famous Fokker D.VII biplane in a less known form, in the service of the Finnish Air Force. An interesting choice for anyone who enjoys interwar aviation history and unconventional users of well-known types.

The real subject

The Fokker D.VII is considered the best German fighter of the First World War, outstanding in rate of climb and in handling even at high altitude. After the war ended the aircraft dispersed to a number of countries, and the young Finnish Air Force was among their users: with it the Fokker D.VIIs served in the 1920s on fighter and training duties. The Finnish aircraft carried national insignia markedly different from the German wartime schemes, which makes them a refreshing modeling subject.

How to apply the decals

Before applying them, spray the surface with gloss varnish. Soak the subjects one at a time and slide them onto the model off the backing paper; on a biplane it is practical to apply the wing markings before the upper wing is hung and the struts fitted. A decal softener will help the decals to wrap around the ribbing of the covering. Finally seal everything with varnish in the matching degree of sheen.

Who the sheet is for

  • Modelers of the First World War and the interwar period.
  • Anyone interested in the Finnish Air Force and Nordic subjects.
  • Builders who want a well-known type in fresh markings.

This is a decal sheet; the aircraft model is not included in the package.

FAQ

Yes, the Finnish Air Force operated the type after the First World War in the 1920s, on fighter and training duties alike.

No, these are decals only. A Fokker D.VII kit in 1:72 has to be bought separately.

Use a decal softener, as the decal then conforms to the raised ribs and once dry it looks like sprayed markings.
