An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The item is aimed at one particular form: the three-door Starlet of the EP71 generation in Turbo-S trim, and in the late, updated version designated Super Limited. It is a kit for modelers, not a finished model.
In the second half of the 1980s the Toyota Starlet of the P70 series was among the smallest cars in the marque's range, a compact hatchback with front-wheel drive and an emphasis on low weight. The top of the range was the Turbo-S trim with a turbocharged gasoline four-cylinder of about 1.3 liters. The combination of a turbo engine and a light body made it an accessible car for amateur motorsport and for modifying in Japan, thanks to which it keeps a cult reputation to this day. Of the two body shapes offered, the three-door is the sportier, and the late version differs from the early ones in the treatment of the front end and in details of the equipment.
With automobile kits in this scale the result is decided by the finish on the body. A filler primer, several thin coats of color and a gloss varnish only at the end all work well. On a small body it is easy to spray over the edges and let the fine engraving disappear, so spray more lightly and more often. The chrome trim of the windows and the bumpers can be handled either by masking and silver paint or with self-adhesive metallic foil. It pays to finish the interior and the chassis before the body is closed up; afterward you will not reach them.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
