A detail accessory for the engine compartment of a model car in 1:24 scale. According to the name these are two pieces of a turbocharger of the GT30S type. It is not a kit of a car and not a model of an engine, but separate parts with which an engine compartment is modified or completed.
The real subject. In a turbocharger the exhaust gases drive a turbine wheel which, through a common shaft, spins the compressor wheel and compresses the intake air. The engine thus gets more oxygen and, with a matching supply of fuel, a markedly higher output from the same displacement. The size class around thirty is widespread in modifying practice on the more powerful four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, because it is a sensible compromise between a quick spool-up and maximum output. Two pieces in one package open up the possibility of building twin forced induction, that is, an arrangement with two turbochargers typical of six-cylinder and eight-cylinder engines, or of making a stock for two different builds.
First try the parts dry in the engine compartment, as a turbocharger is a bulky element and a place has to be found for it before anything is glued. Degrease and prime the surfaces. What helps most is the contrast of materials: the turbine housing in a dark cast-iron gray with a hint of heat discoloration and rust, the compressor housing in matte aluminum, the small flanges and bolts brought out with metallic paint applied dry. The exhaust outlet is rewarding to finish with the rusty brown and blue-violet shades that metal takes on after heating. At the end a dark wash into the recesses. Choose the gluing according to the material of the parts; on resin and printed parts use super glue.
