Steel wheels, which in tuning slang are called steelies, are the very opposite of polished cast wheels: plain pressed sheet metal, visible nuts, often with only a decorative center cap or none at all.
The real subject. Steel wheels were the standard fitting of ordinary cars and commercial vehicles for decades, and in the wide form they became the mark of several styles - from American hot rods and dragsters through European youngtimers to today's stance and rat scene, where a rough, functional look is deliberately aimed for. The number in the name corresponds to the diameter of the subject in inches, that is, a 16-inch wheel; the word wide points to the increased width of the rim.
Separate the parts carefully and sand the cut surfaces flat, so that the wheel does not wobble once it is fitted. Steel wheels are very rewarding to paint: a base in a subdued color, typically black, white, silver or a striking red, and then a light weathering. It is precisely on steel wheels that it makes sense not to spare the weathering: rubbing on the edge of the rim, dust in the recesses, rust in the places where the paint is worn. Before gluing, check the diameter of the hole against the axle pin of your kit and if need be widen it carefully.
