A set of WORK Emotion XD9 wheels for models of cars in 1:24 scale, in the form matching an 18-inch wheel. It is an accessory, not a kit of a car: a scaled-down version of a particular Japanese aftermarket design with which you replace the wheels supplied in the base kit.
The real subject. WORK Wheels is a Japanese maker of wheels whose Emotion range belongs among the most popular with enthusiasts for Japanese cars. The XD9 design rests on nine straight spokes running right out to the edge of the rim; it is made in many combinations of width and of so-called offset, so it appears on sober builds as well as on markedly filled fenders in the stance style. In 1:24 scale this shape is rewarding, because simple straight spokes create sharp shadows and the wheel looks three-dimensional.
Take note of the sister variant. The manufacturer also offers the same subject in the version matching a 17-inch wheel. The difference is in the diameter: with a lower fender profile and a sportier stance a larger diameter is usually reached for, and on older and smaller cars a smaller one.
Separate the parts carefully and sand the cuts flat. Degrease them, apply a base and spray the paint in thin layers, so that the edges of the spokes stay sharp. Rewarding shades are silver metallic, anthracite, bronze and white; fine-tune a contrasting rim with a brush. Leave the metallic paints until the end. Before gluing, check the diameter of the hole against the axle pin of your kit.
