The castings have a crisper drawing of both the disc and the tire than the parts from the box and can be fitted to a model without touching its structure. This version is cut for the M1 Abrams model by Dragon; the manufacturer carries the same version for models by other makers too, so choose by the model you are building when you order.
The M1 Abrams is an American main battle tank taken into service in the early 1980s, which has gone through a series of modernization steps ever since. The running gear has seven dual road wheels on torsion bars on each side, an idler wheel at the front and a drive sprocket at the rear. The wheels are very exposed on a finished model, because they are seen whole and there are many of them, so every inaccuracy is repeated many times over. The manufacturer uses the designation active version for the form of the wheels on vehicles in current service and sets it apart from the older form, which it offers separately.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent. Cut the casting blocks away with a fine saw and level the mating surfaces with sandpaper so that all the wheels stand at the same height; protect your airways when sanding. Fit the wheels with cyanoacrylate glue onto torsion bars that have already cured, and keep standing the model on a flat board so that the line of the running gear sits true. You will manage the painting quickest on a stick: a primer, the body shade of the vehicle, the tire in a dark color and finally pigments with a dust and mud effect applied in layers from the bottom up.
