The set holds printed markings that are applied onto the sidewall of a model's tire, so that the wheel does not come across as dull and empty. It is meant for the large 1:18 scale and was prepared by the Hobby Design brand. Neither tires nor rims are in the package; the goods are a decorative accessory for the wheels you already have on a model.
The sidewall of a real tire carries the maker's name, the type designation of the tread pattern, the size code and approval marks. On a model this detail is not commonly cast, or else it comes out so shallow that it disappears altogether once painted. A smooth black area then comes across as rubber from a toy and lowers the overall impression even of an otherwise careful build. Added lettering, on the other hand, gives a wheel scale and a viewer reads it at once as a tire of a particular brand. On static models, which are looked at from close up and from every side, it is one of the first details the eye notices.
The surface of rubber, or of plastic imitating rubber, tends to be matte and absorbent, so a decal holds on it worse. It helps to coat the place beforehand with a thin layer of gloss varnish, apply the motif and, once dry, even the whole sidewall out with matte varnish. Run the lettering along the curve and keep checking whether it follows the curvature of the sidewall evenly.
