A set of idler wheels for the Panther tank model in 1:35 scale. It holds two pieces of the 600 mm type and is prepared for the Takom kit. T-Rex Studio also offers the larger 665 mm type alongside it in two forms, so the type matching the machine you are building has to be picked.
The Panther has its drive sprocket at the front and the idler wheel at the rear. The idler wheel does not drive the track but keeps its tension and decides how the upper run of the track sags. On a model it is clearly visible from the side and its diameter is among the details that can be compared with a photograph of the real subject. The diameter of the idler wheel changed on Panthers during production, which is why the manufacturer supplies the 600 mm type and the larger type separately and leaves the choice to the modeler.
Before you glue the wheel permanently, try it dry with the track as well. The tension of the track is a rewarding detail on the Panther: a track that is too taut looks static, while a slight sag between the rollers looks more faithful. Choose glue according to the material of the parts, liquid cement on plastic and cyanoacrylate on resin. It makes sense to finish the painting before the track goes on, because afterward you can no longer reach the wheel. Let polished metal show through around the rim and settle dust and mud with pigments in the recesses.
