An accessory by T-Rex Studio that renders the idler wheel of the Panther tank of the 600 mm type in a disassembled state. According to the name the package holds one piece and the set is cut for the Takom kit. Alongside it the manufacturer has the ordinary idler wheel of the same type in two pieces, which is fitted onto the axle of the suspension.
A disassembled wheel is a storytelling part. It suits everywhere a scene is meant to show work being done on a machine: a wheel propped against the hull, lying in the mud by a thrown track or laid out on a tarpaulin among the tools. For a diorama it is a simple way to give the action a point, because the viewer works out at once what is going on. It comes in on a model standing on a base on its own as well, as a small accessory that reveals that the tank really was used and repaired.
Lay the scene out before you start gluing, because the position of the individual parts decides which surfaces will be visible. Paint the inner faces, which are hidden on an assembled wheel, darker and add oil stains and fine traces of rust to them. The contact faces, on the other hand, should be polished with a metallic shade. Choose glue according to the material of the parts, liquid cement on plastic and cyanoacrylate on resin. At the end, draw the part together with its surroundings using the same pigment you have on the ground and on the running gear of the model.
