An accessory set for a model of the German Panzer I light tank in the large 1:16 scale. These are early type tracks intended exclusively for the Ausf. A version. The set consists of individual links and replaces the track that comes with the base kit. The links are built up into a track, which takes time, but the result has the right sag and the individual parts follow one another as they are seen on a real vehicle.
The Panzer I was a light tank of German manufacture of the 1930s and became the first German tank built in series in the interwar period. The Ausf. A and Ausf. B forms differ in their suspension. The Ausf. B received a lengthened hull, an extra road wheel and a raised idler wheel, so it needs a longer track. That is precisely why the track sets are divided by version and cannot be swapped. The track itself went through modifications in service, from which the difference between the early and the late type is derived.
Separate the links from their gates with a sharp knife and sand the contact faces so that the track runs straight. Build it up in shorter runs and let them dry on a flat surface, and only then join them into the whole. The sag between the return rollers is easiest to make on the model before the joint has dried completely. They are best painted off the vehicle, with a dark base and then a dry brush or pigments for dust and rust, with wear to a metallic sheen on the surfaces the ground and the wheels touch. In 1:16 scale these transitions are very clearly visible, so the work pays off.
