1:32 AV-8B Harrier II exhaust nozzles are resin replacement parts that give a vertically launched Harrier the correct shape for the vectoring nozzles of its powerplant.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a detail accessory for an aircraft model, not the model itself. The set is cast in resin, a material that holds a sharper edge and a finer surface texture than injection-molded plastic. On the Harrier the nozzles are the most distinctive feature of the whole airframe and at the same time the place where accuracy of shape shows at first glance, because they sit on the side of the fuselage at the viewer's eye level.
The AV-8B Harrier II is the American development of the British Harrier, flown above all by the United States Marine Corps as a light attack aircraft with vertical and short takeoff. Thrust is led out through four swiveling nozzles along the sides of the fuselage, the two forward ones for cold fan air and the two rear ones for hot gas. By rotating the nozzles the pilot moves smoothly between hovering and level flight, the principle that let the aircraft work from short strips and from decks without a catapult. The nozzles have a distinctive ribbed shape and are usually turned downward when the aircraft is on the ground.
Wash the castings first in warm water with a little detergent so that no mold release agent is left on them. Separate the casting blocks with a fine saw or a cutting disc, then level the surface with wet sandpaper, protecting your breathing while you work. Test the fit dry, fill any play and fix the joint with cyanoacrylate glue. Turn the forward and rear nozzles to the same angle, or the model will look unnatural. The rear pair is worth setting apart in shades of burnt metal with a light touch of graphite pencil, while the forward pair stays distinctly cleaner.
