A set of painting masks for the glazing of the Agusta-Bell 47J Super Ranger helicopter in 1:144 scale from the Peewit brand. It is neither a model nor a kit, but an accessory for painting. According to the name the set holds two pieces, which is usual with small models in this scale. You will find the full contents on the box of the set. The masks are self-adhesive and are removed from the model once the painting is finished.
In 1:144 scale a helicopter model fits in the palm of the hand and the glazed cabin of the Bell 47 takes up a substantial part of its silhouette. The frames here are so thin that drawing them by hand with a brush is practically out of the question, and cutting tape on a doubly curved surface is wasted work. A shaped mask delimits exactly the area that is to stay clear, and the edge of the frame comes out crisp all the way around. That is exactly the detail by which a small model either catches the eye or, on the contrary, looks unfinished.
Work with fine-tipped tweezers, good light and in a clean environment - in this scale every grain of dust shows. Place the parts one at a time and press the edge down with a blunt tool, so that no gap is left anywhere. Apply the paint in thin coats, as a heavy coat tends to seep under. Peel the mask away at an angle from the surface as soon as the paint layer is firm enough.
