1:20 Toyota Celica LB Turbo Gr.5 is a plastic kit of the Japanese circuit racer of the Gr.5 category from the end of the 1970s, from the Tamiya brand.

A plastic kit of the circuit racer Toyota Celica LB Turbo of the Gr.5 category in 1:20 scale from the Japanese brand Tamiya. It is a modern release of a classic tooling from the end of the 1970s, this time in a non-motorized form, with a new set of decals and new racing slicks. The box contains a driver figure and two options of race numbers.
The Celica LB Turbo was created by rebuilding the production first-generation liftback for the freest silhouette category, Gr.5. The body received markedly widened fenders, a front spoiler, a massive rear wing and a whole series of fiberglass panels. Under the hood worked a turbocharged DOHC inline four of 2090 cc with an output of around 560 horsepower. The car debuted in July 1977 in the German DRM championship and already in October of the same year it drove home its first win, in which it beat the then dominant Porsche 935.
The model has a detailed engine bay, wheel suspension and an interior with a roll cage. It therefore pays to work in subassemblies and paint them before the body closes them in. On the body a primer, a smoothly sanded base and a gloss top color sprayed with an airbrush work well; under the decals belongs a gloss varnish compatible with the paint used, and an evening overcoat at the end. A dark wash will bring out the roll cage and the cabin details, while the slicks will benefit from a fine knocking back of the sheen.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
