A saturated green dipping ink in a bottle of 17 ml. The principle is the same across this whole group: the paint is applied generously, runs into the recesses and engraved lines by itself and darkens the shadow there, whereas on the raised places only a thin film of color remains.

Green on green, or monochrome deepening

Hulky Green is a typical member of the saturated green family and comes out strongest where there is already a green base. Over a medium green area it creates a monochrome depth, where shadow and light stay evidently one color and only the saturation makes the difference between them. Over a light yellow green base color it pulls the whole tone into a cooler and darker register. Over a bone or beige area it shows most markedly, because the shift toward green is immediately legible against a warm base. And on a dark green base the tone no longer repaints anything, it only draws the texture in the shadows.

Use

• Stir the contents of the bottle before applying.
• Work with a generous coat, so that the ink has somewhere to run.
• Grade the saturation by the number of dippings, not by the strength of one coat.
• On large smooth areas take the excess off with a clean brush, so that no stains arise.
• Always try the shade on a scrap area or in a hidden place.
