This set of self-adhesive painting masks in 1:48 scale from Art Scale is made of good masking tape. It is a double-sided version with an accurate fit that allows the canopy glazing to be masked from the outer and the inner side, so that the frames get the right color even when seen from inside. It is not a kit but an accessory for a clean paint job on a model of the Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat carrier fighter. The set is cut for the parts of the Eduard kit; on a model from another manufacturer the shapes may not match.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American carrier fighter of the Second World War and one of the main machines of the US Navy in the Pacific. The F6F-3 version was the first production variant, and it quickly made its mark in the fighting against Japanese aircraft thanks to its rugged construction, its armament and its reliability.
Apply the inner masks before the canopy is closed up and the outer ones after the glazing is in place. Press the edges down carefully so that no paint creeps underneath, and lay the paint on with an airbrush in thin coats. Take the mask off shortly after the finish has dried.
