This is a set of painting masks from the manufacturer Art Scale in 1:48, not a kit of the aircraft. The masks are cut for the Fw 190A-4 kit from Eduard. According to the name the set is double-sided, that is meant for masking from both sides of the glazing. On the Fw 190 that makes exceptional sense: the sliding cockpit canopy has few frames and a lot of glass, so the inner frame is clearly visible through the glazing and its color cannot be hidden on a finished model. The single-sided form of the same type is offered separately.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was among the best German fighters of the Second World War. Against the slender Messerschmitt it bet on a radial engine, wide-track landing gear and excellent handling. The A-4 version was built from 1942 and was one of the most widespread early variants; outwardly it can be told by its radio fit, to which a short vertical mast on the fin belonged. It is by details like these that one tells which subversion a model represents.
Wash and degrease the glazing so that the edge of the mask seats. Mask and spray the inner side before closing the fuselage. Lay the paint on in several thin coats instead of one heavy one and take the mask off shortly after the paint is touch dry. It pays to work the sliding canopy separately and to attach it to the fuselage only at the very end, so that it does not get dirty during the rest of the work.
