The Aires 1:48 MiG-17 wheels and painting masks accessory set refines the landing gear of a model of the Soviet fighter in 1:48 scale.

This is not an aircraft kit but an accessory set for a MiG-17 model in 1:48 scale. According to the name it combines replacement wheels with painting masks used when the tires and the hubs are painted. Wheels are usually simplified on production kits, and replacing them is one of the quick upgrades with a big visual effect. The manufacturer is the Czech brand Aires.
The wheels sit at the viewer's eye level on a finished model, and their tread and shape are noticed before any cockpit detail. Replacement wheels tend to be more accurate in shape and hold a round profile better. The masking template then solves an otherwise unpleasant job: separating the dark tire from the lighter hub without a shaky hand. The recommended sequence is to spray the hub color first, fit the mask once it is dry, and spray the tire over it.
The MiG-17 is a Soviet subsonic fighter that came out of a reworking of the earlier MiG-15, with a new, more sharply swept wing and better behavior at high speeds. It was also built under license and served in dozens of countries long after its era with the Soviet Air Force had ended. Modelers like it for the wide range of users and color schemes.
