An ink is not a covering paint. It goes over a finished coat and changes its color while the surface underneath stays readable. That is precisely why it is handled differently from an ordinary paint: the point is not to cover an area but to give it depth and transitions. As a base coat on bare plastic an ink is not suitable.
The effect of an ink adds up with every coat, so it is better to start weak and build up gradually. Stir the bottle well before use. Choose the thinner and the cleaner according to the manufacturer's instructions for this range, as a randomly chosen thinner can ruin the finish. Before you start on the model, try the strength of the tone on a scrap of plastic or in a less visible place.
For figure painters who work with a shaded palette, for wargaming modelers and for anyone who wants to refine a finished coat without respraying the model. As the first paint in a beginner's kit, though, an ink is not the thing.
