About product

Lifecolor War on The Road - a paint set for concrete, asphalt and plaster

The set of paints from the Italian brand Lifecolor is put together for the surfaces that make up the base of a whole scene on a diorama: concrete slabs and paving, the asphalt surfacing of a roadway, sidewalks, curbs and the plastered walls of buildings. It is not a kit and not an accessory to a model but painting material with which a scene is unified and takes on a realistic look.

What the set is suited to

  • Concrete areas: slab roadways, runways, piers, retaining walls and anti-tank obstacles.
  • Asphalt roadways including repaired and patched stretches.
  • Plaster and the facades of buildings in city and village scenes.
  • Bases under figures and vehicles, where the ground is meant to look built rather than natural.

How to work with the paints

Neither concrete nor asphalt is uniform in reality. You will reach the best result when you lay the base tone on over the whole area and then break it up: with lighter patches where the surface has dried out or has been worn down, and with darker ones where water ran or oil dripped. The shades can be mixed with one another and graduated, so a whole range arises out of one set, from fresh concrete to a weathered surface repaired many times over. Shake the bottles properly before work, because the pigment of matte earthy tones settles to the bottom, and choose the thinning according to the manufacturer's recommendation. Pigments and liquid washes take well to a finished surface, and with them the gaps, the cracks and the deposits of dust are finished off.

Who the set is for

For builders of dioramas and display bases in any scale, for modelers of equipment who want to place a vehicle in a setting, and for railroad modelers, for whom the same tones suit station platforms, ramps and grade crossings.

FAQ

It is a set of modeling paints. You make the surface yourself on a base you prepare, and the set supplies the color, not the texture.

The shade does not depend on the scale, so the set will serve just as well in 1:35 as in 1:72 or on a model railroad layout.

The specific composition is stated on the box of the set. The shades are chosen so that they can be mixed with one another and graduated from a fresh surface to a weathered one.

Yes. A painted surface is an ideal base for pigments and liquid effects, with which the gaps, the dust and the marks of service are finished off.
