Screws with a straight slot in the 1.2 mm size are an add-on set for models of vehicles. They replace a molded head with a part with a real slot, which is fitted into a drilled hole.

An add-on set of small imitations of fasteners for models of military and civilian vehicles. It is not a kit or a model but parts for detailing a build already in progress. A straight slot running right across is the oldest and most common shape of screw head, and on models you will meet it on covers, clips and frames.
On a production plastic part the slot tends to be suggested only by a groove a few hundredths of a millimeter deep. Once a primer is sprayed on it merges with the surface, and after a second coat of paint it disappears altogether. A fitted part has a slot deep enough for a wash to run into it and draw it as a dark line, so that the head reads on the model as a screw and not as a dot.
Cut the original head off flat with a scalpel, sand the surface over and prick the center of the future hole with a point. Drill with a micro drill in a hand holder, choose the diameter by the shank of the part and make the hole rather shallower. Set the part in with tweezers and align the slot before you secure it with the slightest drop of cyanoacrylate glue. With a straight slot the alignment is clearly visible, so it pays either to keep one direction or, on the contrary, to leave them differing, if that is how it should be on the subject.
The size goes by the scale of the model. In this range the designation 1.2 mm fits the larger end, roughly between 1:48 and 1:35. Compare the size with the place the part is to go. Oversized fasteners look coarser on a model than a missing detail and pull the eye away.
