This item is a detail accessory for modelers, not a kit. It replaces a single building element: the base of the commander's observation cupola on the German Pz.Beob.Wg. IV Ausf. J artillery observation vehicle in 1:35 scale. Because the same accessory exists in two versions for two different kits, what matters with this variant is that it is cut for the kit from Border Model. The other version is aimed at the Dragon kit and is not interchangeable with this one in its dimensions.
The Pz.Beob.Wg. IV Ausf. J was a German observation vehicle built on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw. IV tank in its late Ausf. J version. It appeared at the close of the war and was to serve forward artillery observers: from it the crew directed the fire of their own batteries, so the vehicle carried mainly signals and observation equipment. From the outside it differs from an ordinary tank chiefly in details of the superstructure and the turret, among them the layout of the commander's cupola. For modelers this is a type where the overall impression is decided by the small things on the turret roof.
Seat the part dry and only then deal with the gluing: with small parts it pays to check that it sits at the right height and rotation relative to the hatch. Degrease the surface before painting and apply a thin layer of base coat, so that the shade is evened out with the surrounding area. The cupola is an exposed spot, so restrained chipping on the edges and a dark wash into the recesses suit it. The detail comes out best when the color transition between the turret and the superstructure stays subtle.
