1:32 Beer Delivery is a resin set of beer barrels that British fighters carried under their wings in place of drop tanks during the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not an aircraft model but a small resin accessory set. It contains beer barrels meant to be hung under the wings of the Supermarine Spitfire fighter on the pylons for drop tanks. The castings are in smooth resin with a crisp rendering of the hoops and the lid, that is with detail that injected plastic does not give at this size. The set offers the barrel in a bare form as well as a barrel with an aerodynamic fairing, as both forms appeared in practice.
After the Normandy landings in 1944 there was no fresh beer at the forward airfields, so British squadrons set up an improvised delivery. Barrels were hung on the pylons under the wings of Spitfires in place of drop tanks, or else the beer was carried directly in modified tanks. A flight at high altitude pleasantly chilled the drink at the same time. What began as a curious improvisation became one of the best-loved stories of the period, and today it tempts modelers into an unconventional display scene.
The castings are separated from the casting blocks, rinsed free of mold release agent and fitted on the pylons of the model. Stick to super glue, as ordinary cement for plastic does not work with resin. For the wooden hoops and staves a combination of brown shades with a glaze and with fine accenting of the joints in a dark shade works well.
