About product

Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-2/G-4 1:32, Eduard masking set

A masking set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:32 scale for a model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the G-2 and G-4 versions. The sheet contains pre-shaped self-adhesive masks that are stuck straight onto the parts of the model, which does away with the tedious cutting of tape to the framing. The set is an accessory for a kit; the box contains neither the model itself, nor paints, nor glue. This version is intended for the outer side of the glazing, while the sister set designated TFace adds masks for the inner side as well.

The real subject

The Bf 109 G series was the most widespread development branch of this single-seat fighter. Compared with the older versions it was given a more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine and, with it, a reworked cowling. The G-2 and G-4 versions were very similar outwardly and can be told apart mainly by equipment, above all the radio; on a model the difference shows in details and markings rather than in outline. The cockpit with the angular framing of its canopy is among the typical features of the type and in the large 1:32 scale it is immediately visible when looking at the model.

How to use the mask

Wash and degrease the clear part so that the film holds. Take the masks off the sheet with the tip of a scalpel, seat them in place and press the edges down carefully with a toothpick, because paint runs practically only under an edge that has not been pressed down. Fill in the free areas between the frames with tape or masking fluid. Spray in several thin coats: the interior shade of the framing first, and the outer color once it is dry. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has flashed off at an acute angle, best of all lifted with the tip of a scalpel without touching the glazing.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Bf 109 G-2 and G-4 in the large 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who want sharp framing without cutting by hand
  • Those who spray with an airbrush in thin coats
  • Beginners for whom masking the canopy is the hardest part of the build

The set is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. It is a masking set that you use when painting a Bf 109 G-2 or G-4 model in 1:32 scale that you have already bought.

The set is listed for both versions at once, because their glazing is identical. The particular contents of the sheet, however, are not stated here.

With ordinary masking tape or masking fluid. The pre-shaped templates deal with the outline of the framing; you fill in the rest yourself.

Shortly after the paint has flashed off. With a fully dried layer there is a risk that paint beyond the frame will flake off as the mask is lifted.
