About product

Douglas A-26B Invader Look 1:32 — an Eduard instrument panel

The Look line is the answer of Eduard to what a flat etch cannot do. The basis is not sheet metal but a resin casting with printed dials and a glossy layer that imitates the glass of the instruments. The panel thus has real volume, raised bezels and a depth that with a layered etch you can only suggest. Steel seat belts, that is the same technology Eduard uses in its separate belt sets, are usually part of it as well. This item is an accessory for a plastic model, not an aircraft model.

The real subject

The Douglas A-26 Invader was an American twin-engine attack aircraft, designated B-26 after 1948. The B version differed from the glazed C version in a solid nose fitted with machine guns. In 1:32 scale the pilot's cockpit is large and well open to view through the sizeable glazing, so the detail of the instrument panel counts for more than in smaller scales.

Installation tips

First wash the resin casting in lukewarm soapy water so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the surface with wet abrasive paper, and never snap it off. Protect the printed and glossy areas from sanding and from painting; they are finished in production and are not meant to be sprayed over. Remove the original panel from the plastic part so that the replacement sits at the correct depth, otherwise it will not meet the frame of the cockpit. It is bonded with super glue, ideally the gel type, which gives time to position it. Shape the belts only after cutting them out and leave them draped asymmetrically. Finally check the fit of the glazing dry, and only then close the cockpit.

Who the set is for

  • builders of the Invader in 1:32 scale
  • modelers for whom a flat etch is not enough and who want a panel with volume
  • anyone interested in finished instruments with glass and no painting
  • builds with an open cockpit or a swung-back cover

This is an accessory set, not a standalone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The basis is a resin casting with volume and a glossy layer imitating the glass of the instruments, whereas an etch is flat sheet assembled in layers.

It is not. It is a replacement instrument panel for a plastic Invader model in 1:32 scale.

No. The dials are printed and the surface of the instruments is finished in production, so it is not meant to be sprayed over.

Remove the original plastic panel, dry-fit the casting to the correct depth and only then glue it with super glue.
