A sizable plastic kit of the legendary American F-117A Nighthawk stealth attack aircraft in the large 1:32 scale from Trumpeter. The injection-molded model faithfully captures the angular, faceted shape made up of flat surfaces that scatter radar waves. The kit offers a detailed cockpit and landing gear bays, metal alloy landing gear struts, rubber tires and photo-etched parts, among them the air intake grilles. The decals allow several specific machines to be built.
The F-117A Nighthawk was the first series-produced aircraft to see combat that was designed according to the principles of stealth technology, that is of low radar visibility. Its unusual angular surface made up of facets and its matte black finish were intended to minimize the reflection of radar waves. Although it was nicknamed a fighter, it was in fact a subsonic attack aircraft intended for precision strikes against ground targets with guided munitions carried in an internal bomb bay. It was operated by the US Air Force.
Finish and paint the cockpit and the landing gear bays before closing the fuselage. The key to a realistic look is a clean matte black - apply it with an airbrush in thin coats over a good primer so that the edges of the facets stand out. Do not sand the sharp transitions between the surfaces into rounded shapes; they are essential to the stealth form. Use masks on the cockpit glazing. Glue the external and internal weapons and the photo-etched grilles on at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
