A resin exhaust nozzle for a model of the F-35A and F-35C Lightning II in 1:32 scale replaces the plastic nozzle from a kit with a casting carrying fine movable segments. It is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory for one.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a model of an aircraft but an add-on set. It replaces the engine exhaust nozzle from a plastic kit with a resin casting on which the individual sawtooth segments and the inner petals of the nozzle are rendered markedly more finely than an injection mold can manage. The nozzle is one of the first places every viewer looks at on a model, so replacing it is one of the most rewarding improvements of all. The set is cut for the Trumpeter kit in 1:32 scale, which matters, because the same nozzle is also offered in a form for a different kit.
The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a single-engine fifth-generation combat aircraft with reduced radar signature. The F-35A version is the land-based variant with conventional takeoff and landing, and the F-35C version is the variant for operation from aircraft carriers, with greater wing area, folding wingtips and strengthened landing gear. Both are powered by the Pratt & Whitney F135 engine with the same exhaust nozzle arrangement, which is why one accessory can cover them together. The F-35B version with short takeoff and vertical landing, by contrast, has a completely different exhaust arrangement with a swiveling nozzle and a lift fan, and the set is not used there.
Before building, wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, and never break them off. Level the mating surfaces with abrasive paper and sand wet, with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, because ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the paint would hold poorly on the smooth casting. Spray the inside of the nozzle with metallic shades before it is glued up, since once assembled a brush no longer reaches in there. Heat-stressed areas can be graded with thin filters or with pigments applied dry.
The add-on set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
