About product

A three-dimensional interior decal, 1:32 F/A-18A, the Small version variant (Quinta Studio)

This item is an accessory set, not a kit of the aircraft. Quinta Studio prints the interior elements three-dimensionally and already in color onto decal paper, so the instrument panel, the consoles and the control panels gain relief and color at the same time, with no painting of tiny dials. The name designates it as the Small version, that is the smaller equivalent of the set for the same aircraft; the basic set without that designation is a separate item and covers the interior to a wider extent. Dimensionally it follows the Academy kit.

The real subject

The F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine carrier-borne multirole aircraft with a wing with folding tips and a pair of vertical tails. The A version is the single-seat form of the first production generation of the type, that is a machine with the cockpit equipment of its day, which differs from the later upgraded machines. The interior set therefore has to be chosen according to the particular version, otherwise the instrument panel will not match the subject.

Application tips

Quinta three-dimensional decals are released from the backing paper in water: the part is soaked in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the paper into place. It has no adhesive layer of its own and holds on gloss varnish, with which you go over the painted and degreased interior surface. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution at all, as they would damage the printed resin layer. So spray the cockpit first and let the paint cure thoroughly. The exact procedure is given in the instructions enclosed with the set. Pick the parts up with smooth-jawed tweezers, seat them dry and only then press them home. Do not paint over the relief; at most bring it out with a dark wash into the recesses.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Hornet in the large 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who want a quick improvement of the cockpit on a smaller scope
  • Those building the model with the canopy closed
  • A less demanding way into three-dimensional interior sets

This is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory set. The Academy base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The name designates it as the Small version, that is the smaller equivalent of the interior set for the same aircraft. The basic set without that designation is a separate item; compare the extent of the two in the instructions.

No. It is an accessory set of three-dimensional interior decals; the Hornet model in 1:32 scale has to be bought separately.

The part is soaked in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds, slid off the backing paper and seated on a painted, degreased interior surface gone over with gloss varnish. Do not use a softener or a setting solution at all, as they would damage the printed resin layer. The exact procedure is given in the instructions in the package.

For the Academy kit in 1:32 scale. The plastic parts of the base model are not included in the package.
