About product

Fw 190A-5 cockpit set in 1:32 scale (Aires)

This is not an airplane model but a replacement interior for one. The set replaces the cockpit from a plastic kit with a complete resin assembly: the cockpit tub, the seat, the instrument panel, the control stick and the side panels. In 1:32 scale the cockpit under an opened canopy is the most closely examined part of a model, so this is where an investment in detail pays back fastest. The maker offers several sets of this type and distinguishes them by their exact designation, so go by that when choosing.

What the accessory solves on a model

A cockpit from a tooling has simplified shapes for technological reasons: thick walls, a flat instrument panel and hinted belts. Resin has no such limitation. A casting captures even small levers, hoses and the texture of the upholstery, the instrument panel tends to have recessed dials and the seat a real shell thickness. The difference is visible at once as soon as you look into the cockpit at an angle. In a large scale this goes double, because at 1:32 the eye already picks out individual rivets.

How to work with resin

The cockpit tub tends to be cast on a massive casting block, which is cut off with a fine-toothed saw rather than snapped off. Then sand the bottom flat and keep checking whether the assembly fits between the fuselage halves. Almost always material has to be taken off the inside of the fuselage walls; do it step by step and dry-fit after every change. Wash the parts before painting in warm water with dish soap, so that the release agent from the mold disappears. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and for larger surfaces a gel variant suits, because it gives time to set the part in place. The cockpit has to be painted and assembled before you glue the fuselage together, as afterward you can no longer get inside. Wear a respirator when sanding resin.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Fw 190A-5 in 1:32 scale who want a model with an opened canopy
  • Modelers for whom the simplified plastic interior from a kit is not enough
  • More experienced modelers used to dry-fitting and reworking fuselage walls
  • Those interested in a quality base for painting small details and belts

The set is a resin accessory, not a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

Yes, it is conceived as a replacement for the plastic interior. Check the exact extent of the parts in the instructions for the set.

As a rule yes. With resin cockpits material is commonly taken off the inside of the fuselage walls, so that the halves can be closed. Dry-fit after every step.

Before gluing the fuselage together. Once it is closed you practically cannot get inside and neither the painting nor fitting the belts can be done properly.

Cyanoacrylate glue. For large surfaces a gel variant is more practical, as it gives you time to set the part in place.
