About product

The real subject

German aircraft of the Second World War had their main instruments grouped on a panel in front of the pilot and further gauges distributed around the sides of the cockpit. The dials carried light graphics on a dark ground and were as a rule recessed in individual bezels. In 1:32 scale they are legible on a finished model, so the flat printing from the box gives itself away at first glance.

What the set contains

The set brings separate three-dimensionally printed colored instrument dials on decal paper. They are not tied to one aircraft type or to one kit, so you can use them wherever you need to replace the flat instruments from the box or to complete a panel of your own making. Every element has a three-dimensional relief and finished graphics, so painting the needles and the scales with a brush falls away.

Usage tips

Cut the dial out with a sharp blade close to the edge of the printing, soak it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the backing paper into place. It has no adhesive layer of its own, so first paint the surface of the instrument panel, let it dry thoroughly and go over it with gloss varnish, for example Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22; on a glossy base it holds best. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. Move the elements with blunt-jawed tweezers and press them down only lightly so that the relief is not crushed. A drop of gloss varnish laid on the finished dial imitates the glass of the instrument well.

Who it is for

Modelers who build German types in the large scales and want a legible cockpit without painting tiny detail will appreciate this universal sheet. It also comes in handy as a stock of spare instruments for any project.

Terms of supply

FAQ

It is not tied to a particular model. It is a universal sheet of separate dials that you can use on any kit in 1:32 scale.

Yes. The dial is cut out, soaked in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the backing paper. A decal softener does not belong with it.

Paint the surface, let it dry and go over it with gloss varnish. Cut the element out close to the edge of the printing, soak it in lukewarm water, slide it off the paper and press it down only lightly with blunt-jawed tweezers.

Lay a drop of gloss varnish on the finished dial. Once dry it forms a domed glossy surface that resembles glass.
