A printed marking sheet in 1:32 scale from the British brand Xtradecal. It serves to finish a built model of the Hurricane in the Mk.IIb subversion, that is the stage of the build when the airframe is sprayed and waiting for its national insignia and codes. How many schemes are covered on the sheet and which particular machines they are cannot be read from the name and is not stated here.
The Hawker Hurricane was a fighter monoplane of mixed construction, built around a welded tube frame with a fabric-covered rear fuselage. It was exactly this structure that proved an advantage: a damaged airframe could be repaired in field conditions. The Mk.II version received a more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin XX, and the Mk.IIb subversion an expanded armament of twelve 7.7 mm machine guns in the wing against eight on the earlier machines. Mk.IIb Hurricanes also came into their own as fighter-bombers with bomb racks and served far beyond the British Isles.
First unify the sprayed finish with gloss varnish; on a matte surface a silvery veil forms under the edges of the markings, and that is hard to put right afterward. Once the markings are in place and dry, cover the model with varnish at the degree of sheen you want, and only then start on washes and dust, so that the weathering follows on from the codes and does not wipe them away.
