Eduard 1:32 I-16 Type 29 is a set of pre-cut masking templates for a model of the Soviet Polikarpov I-16 Type 29 fighter in the large 1:32 scale.

This is not a kit of an aircraft but a masking set for 1:32 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. The templates are cut from a thin masking paper with a gentle adhesive that adapts well to the curve of glazing and leaves no residue when removed. In the large 1:32 scale the quality of the edges of the canopy framing is especially visible, because the model is looked at close up and every run of paint stands out.
The masks are peeled off the sheet, laid on the part and pressed into the engraving of the frames with a toothpick. The result is straight and sharp edges with no cutting by hand with a knife on finished glazing, where one bad stroke means a scratch. Sets of this type usually also include masks for the wheels, which make separating the tire from the rim easier.
The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet single-seat fighter of the 1930s, one of the first production monoplanes with a retractable landing gear. Its characteristic short barrel-shaped fuselage with a radial engine earned it a nickname taken from its stocky shape. The Type 29 version belonged to the later series and was used in the first months of the fighting on the Eastern Front.
Degrease the glazing first, as a mask does not hold on a greasy surface. Transfer the templates with tweezers and press them down from the center toward the edges. Before the camouflage itself, spray a thin coat of the interior shade or of varnish, which seals the edges of the mask and prevents seepage. Remove the masks while the paint is still fresh, with the tip of a scalpel or a toothpick. If any adhesive residue were to remain, take it off with a cotton swab moistened in alcohol.
This is an addition for building a model, not a kit in its own right. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
