1:32 J2M5/6 Raiden: Dead Design masks for the frames of the raised canopy of the late Raiden versions.
Responsibility details are not available.
The shapes in this set are cut for the glazing of the late Raidens, which differ from earlier machines in the shape of the cockpit. That is why masks for the older versions will not fit this model, and why both designations are given together in the name: both versions share the same canopy shape.
The low-set cockpit of the first Raidens was uncomfortable for the pilot and cost him field of view on the approach to a bomber. On the late machines the designers therefore raised the canopy and reworked its framing. The version marked as the Model 33 also received an engine installation adapted for combat at great altitude, where the raids against the Japanese islands were operating. This raised cockpit shape is the most striking recognition mark of the whole late series on a model.
Do not leave the masks on the model longer than necessary; after long weeks the edges separate less easily and marks can stay on the glazing. Work in a dry room, because high humidity lengthens the drying and raises the risk of the finish fogging over the glazing. And before you reach for the paint, run the tweezers over the edges of the mask once more; a slight lifting you overlook on application shows up after spraying as a blurred line.
