About product

Quickboost 1:32 MiG-21 radio altitude sensors late v., resin radio altimeter antennas

A small detail set of cast resin in 1:32 scale from the Quickboost brand, which is made by the Czech company Aires. It replaces the radio altimeter antennas on the underside of the fuselage of the MiG-21 fighter aircraft in the form matching the late versions. It is not an aircraft kit, but a small accessory for a model under construction.

What the set solves

The thin antennas under the fuselage belong to the details that injection-molded plastic can never manage at scale thickness; the mold needs draft angles, so the part comes out heavier, and it is moreover easily damaged when cut off the sprue. A resin casting allows a sharp outline and a more realistic profile. In the large 1:32 scale these elements are clearly visible from below and the replacement shows in the result. The set is tied to the late form: early MiG-21 machines had antennas of a different shape and placement, and a separate variant of the set exists for them. Before buying, therefore, check which version of the machine you are building.

Tips for working it

Wash the parts in warm water with detergent to remove the mold release agent. Cut them off the casting block with a sharp new cutter on a soft surface, as they are fragile. Cut the original plastic antennas off the kit and sand the area smooth. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); a small drop applied with a toothpick is enough. We recommend fitting the antennas only after the underside of the fuselage has been sprayed, so that they survive the masking and the ordinary handling of the model. Sand wet and with your airways protected.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of MiG-21 models in 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who are building the late version of the machine
  • Display and competition models with an emphasis on small details
  • A quick improvement with a minimum of work

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It contains only the small resin parts of the antennas. A plastic MiG-21 kit has to be owned or bought separately.

By the particular version and machine you are building. The shape and placement of the antennas changed during MiG-21 production, and each form has its own set.

Only after the underside of the fuselage has been sprayed. They are thin and easily snap off during masking or handling.

Cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); a small drop applied with a toothpick is enough. Cement for plastic does not work on resin.
