About product

Armory 1:32 MiG-19 Farmer, resin wheels with weighted tires

This is an accessory to a kit, not a model of the aircraft. The set contains resin wheels for MiG-19 models in 1:32 scale, in the form with weighted tires, that is with the deformation modeled in that the tire of a parked aircraft has under its own weight. In a large scale this detail is conspicuous and is one of the first things that give a finished model an impression of mass.

The real subject

The MiG-19 is a single-seat twin-engined fighter with a swept wing, the first series-built Soviet machine capable of sustained supersonic flight. It was operated by a number of countries and was also built under license. Its landing gear is fairly slender, so the shape of the wheel and the way it touches down on the base easily give away an inaccuracy on a model.

Building and painting tips

With weighted wheels one extra rule applies: the deformed area has to be at the bottom and has to lie fully on the base. Before gluing, therefore, stand the model on a flat board and align the position of the wheel, and only then tighten the glue joint. Beforehand, wash the mold release agent off the castings and cut the casting block off so that the cut does not reach into the contact patch. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. In a large scale, do not spray the tire black: a dark gray base with a lighter shade dusted onto the sidewalls looks more faithful and takes a later application of dust pigments better.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of aircraft in the large 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who want a model that touches down faithfully on its base
  • Those who work with resin and cyanoacrylate glue
  • Competition modelers, whose landing gear is judged at close range

The accessory is supplied unpainted, as resin castings. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The casting has the deformation modeled in where it touches the ground, of the kind the tire of a parked aircraft has under its own weight. The model then does not look as if it were hovering.

The flattened area has to face down and touch down across its whole width. It pays to stand the model on a flat board while gluing and to align the position of the wheels before the glue dries.

Check the contents of the package on the box of the set before ordering.
