The real subject

The Norden was an American opto-mechanical bombsight for dropping bombs from level flight. It consisted of an optical part and a stabilized mechanical unit, and was operated by a crew member in the forward glazed section of the aircraft. The position is exactly what is crucial from the modeling point of view: the glazed nose is transparent, so people look into it and missing or coarsely rendered equipment is noticed at once. The 1:32 scale shows the instrument at a size where the detail is worth it.

Building and painting tips

With resin parts it pays to wash them in lukewarm water with detergent before gluing, to cut the casting blocks off with a saw and to wet the surfaces being sanded, so no dust is raised. Fit the accessory and paint it before you close the nose up - after that you will not get to it. Choose a dark base shade, pick out the small controls with a fine brush and even the contrast out with a weak wash. The optics are imitated by a drop of gloss varnish or transparent glue applied right at the very end. Glue the nose glazing with glue for clear parts, so it does not fog.
