A large injection-molded plastic kit of the American North American P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:32 scale from Hasegawa. Thanks to the large scale it offers a richly detailed model: a detailed engine and firewall, a complete cockpit with a pilot figure, the landing gear bays, removable cowling panels and a wing showing the wing machine guns. The P-51D was the most widespread and best-known version of the Mustang, recognizable by its teardrop canopy and its six wing machine guns. It was powered by a license-built Rolls-Royce Merlin V12, which gave it outstanding performance at high altitude. As a long-range escort fighter it accompanied Allied bombers deep over Germany and became one of the symbols of the air war over Europe.
In the large 1:32 scale the detail of the engine and the cockpit comes into its own, so it pays to paint them carefully and pick them out before closing up. Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic and the glazing with cement for canopies. The polished natural metal finish of many Mustangs calls for a smooth surface and a metallic paint applied at the end. After the decals, pick out the panel lines with a wash.
