The kit comes from the Japanese brand Bandai, famous for its precise snap-fit models, and is issued under the Revell name. The parts are molded in color and join by snapping together, so the model can be built with no glue and no paint; stickers and conventional decals are both available. The movable wings can be opened into the characteristic attack position in the shape of an X.
The X-wing is a single-seat rebel starfighter, one of the best known machines of the whole Star Wars saga. Its hallmarks are the four laser cannons on the wingtips, which open into an X in flight, the astromech droid seated behind the pilot, and its versatile use as a fighter and a light bomber alike. It is precisely the X-wing that is bound up with the key moments of the film saga.
Thanks to the pre-colored parts and the snap-fit construction the build is simple and quick, suitable even for beginners. Anyone who wants to take the result further can lightly fill and sand the joints, spray the whole model with an airbrush and add weathering: bringing out the engraved lines with a dark wash, fine scuffs and soot traces around the nozzles and the weapons. A matte varnish evens the surface out into the realistic used look typical of Star Wars machinery.
The model is supplied unassembled. Paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise; thanks to the snap-fit construction and the pre-colored parts, neither glue nor painting is necessary.
