About product

Glazing masks Spitfire Mk.I/II 1:32

A set of self-adhesive glazing masks for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I or Mk.II in 1:32 scale. The masks are cut to the shape of the frame of the cabin of a particular Hasegawa kit and are stuck directly onto the clear part.

What they are good for

The frame of the cabin has to be sprayed in the same color as the rest of the aircraft, otherwise the model does not act as a whole. Covering by hand with tape is the most thankless part of a build where glazing is concerned: the tape has to be stretched into the curves and trimmed with a scalpel directly on the clear part, and every scratch then shows. A cut mask removes this step. It is stuck onto the glass, it outlines the frame, and after spraying and drying it is taken off - under it a clear surface is left without paint, without fingerprints and without grooves from a knife.

The real subject

The Spitfire Mk.I and Mk.II were the first production versions of the famous British fighter. The cabin with a sliding canopy and with frames divided into several fields is a marked recognition feature of theirs, and in 1:32 scale it makes up one of the visually most important details of the whole model.

Usage tips

Before sticking them on, wash the clear part in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and let it dry freely; grease from the fingers keeps the adhesion down. Lay the mask from one edge and press it down gradually, so that no air gets under it. First spray the interior shade, and only then the outer colors - the transition on the frame then looks natural. Take them off with the tip of a toothpick or with tweezers with smooth jaws, never with a knife.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the early Spitfire in 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who do not want to cut tape directly on a clear part
  • Beginners for whom the frame of a cabin has so far spoiled an otherwise successful model
  • Everyone who builds from the corresponding Hasegawa kit

FAQ

This item deals with the outer side. If you want the frame to look right from the interior too, a separate double-sided variant exists.

After the last sprayed coat that concerns the glazing has dried. Pull it at an angle across the edge, not straight up.

The masks are intended precisely for glazing. Even so, do not leave them on the model needlessly long and wipe any remaining adhesive off with a cotton swab with water.
