An AML accessory set devoted to a little known chapter: the Spitfire LF Mk.IXe fighters of the Israeli Air Force, which flew with modified German drop tanks. The set brings the parts for the tanks and the related accessories for a Spitfire model in 1:32 scale; the kit of the aircraft itself is not included and has to be on hand. The target kits are Revell and Tamiya.
The LF Mk.IXe version was optimized for combat at low altitude and carried the wing with 20 mm cannons supplemented by heavy machine guns. Israel acquired its Spitfires at the end of the 1940s, and some of them flew in from Czechoslovakia on long-range ferry flights, on which the drop tanks of German origin adapted for the type proved their worth. The machines went straight into the fighting of the War of Independence and became a symbol of the young Israeli Air Force's improvisation.
Dry-fit the tanks before painting and check that the mountings under the fuselage or the wing are symmetrical. Even the transitions between the accessories and the airframe out with a drop of filler so that the installation looks like a natural part of the aircraft. Choose the camouflage according to the particular period of service; the markings on Israeli machines differed from one aircraft to the next.
