About product

The real subject

The Panavia Tornado IDS is a two-seat combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing that came out of cooperation between Germany, Great Britain and Italy. The IDS version is intended for attacks on ground targets and for low-level penetration. The crew consists of a pilot and a weapons systems officer seated one behind the other under a long canopy, which is exactly why there is twice as much cockpit on show on a model as on a single-seat machine. In 1:32 scale nothing hides under the canopy: empty side panels and an area painted in a single color catch the eye at once.

What the set contains

Colored three-dimensional interior elements with raised relief, so that the instruments, the controls and the labels have a real surface instead of merely being printed. The elements are printed on a carrier decal paper: the part is dipped in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds, has no adhesive layer of its own and holds best on gloss varnish. Decal softener and setting solution do not belong on them; their chemistry would damage the printed resin. Besides the films, according to the name the package also holds printed resin parts. With those the procedure is different: the remains of the print supports are cut off, the area left behind is sanded and the parts are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).

Installation tips

  • Spray the areas under the elements, let them dry and go over them with gloss varnish.
  • Cut out the individual elements with a sharp blade, soak them in lukewarm water and slide them off the paper into place.
  • Blot off the excess water and press the element down with a cotton swab; on uneven walls a drop of cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) helps.
  • Wash and degrease the printed parts before gluing; the exact procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Finish both cockpits before you close up the fuselage and fit the canopy.

Who it is for

For builders in a large scale who do not want to paint dozens of tiny dials with a brush. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes. The element is cut out, dipped in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the carrier paper. Decal softener and setting solution do not belong on it.

It is prepared for the Tornado IDS kit from Italeri in 1:32 scale. On another kit the shape of the panels may not match.

The elements come finished in color. It is a good idea to spray the area underneath beforehand and go over it with gloss varnish, on which the element holds best.

Cut the remains of the print supports off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the area. Then wash and degrease the parts and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
