A reduced color set from Quinta Studio for the interior of the Italian strike variant of the Tornado. The designation Small version in the name distinguishes it from the more extensive set with the same focus, so keep an eye on which form you want when choosing. The target kit is Italeri.
The IDS is the basic strike variant of the Panavia Tornado and in Italian service it carried its own domestic designation. The machines were built to penetrate to the target at low altitude and high speed, which is what the terrain-following radar and the automatic flight control system served for. The crew consisted of the pilot and, seated behind him, the weapon systems officer, so the cockpit has two separate stations.
With a two-seat cockpit it works well to finish the rear station first, because access to it is worse. Keep checking whether the cockpit tub still fits into the fuselage once it is populated, and take a break between steps so that the surface stays untouched. At the end, look the whole thing over against the light and you will find even small unfinished spots. Mark in advance which surfaces belong at the front and which at the back; once the fuselage is closed, irregularities are hard to correct.
