Fifty years passed in 2024 since the moment the YF-16 prototype first lifted off the runway at Edwards. The US Air Force marked the round anniversary with a special coat on its demonstration F-16C, which toured air shows across the United States over the season.
The demonstration team flies a standard combat machine rather than a modified special, and its display is built on what the Viper does best: a steep climb straight after takeoff, tight turns and passes across the whole speed range. The anniversary graphics underlined that role with bold artwork on the fuselage and on the vertical tail.
The set is cut for the large 1:32 scale, where even fine artwork comes into its own. Besides the main anniversary motif it contains national insignia, unit codes and airframe stencils. The print has sharp registration and rich shades, and the carrier film is thin and practically disappears over a gloss base once dry.
Degrease the area before application and go over it with gloss varnish. Dip the decal briefly in warm water and settle it with a soft brush; at the wing root or around the air intake a decal softening solution will help. You then unify the finished model with a semi-matte coat.
The aircraft kit and the paints are not included.
It will be appreciated above all by those who build modern American equipment and want one piece in the display case that stands out from a row of inconspicuous gray machines. The large scale lets you enjoy even the details that would blur together in a smaller rendition. If you are only starting out, treat this set as a second or third project rather than as a first attempt at laying down complex graphics.
